Jim and Gail Link: Estate Planning from a Christian Perspective
Jim and Gail Link have always had a desire to serve the Lord, and
they have always had a heart to give. When it came to estate
planning, their desires were no different.
“We know it’s important to look at all areas of our giving and planning
with Christian eyes,” said Gail.
But what that meant was sometimes hard to understand.
It wasn’t until they met with Gene Christian, the Luis Palau Association’s
Estate Planning Advisor, that they were able to fully understand
how their estate plan could both honor the Lord as well as their
children.
“Above all,” Jim said, “we wanted to honor God with our planning. And
we needed someone who could truly understand our objectives.”
“We had a lot of things we were wrestling with regarding our estate
plan – How to honor God; how much to leave for our children; how
to properly allocate funds for other causes,” Jim said. “We also
had additional needs for suggestions as to how to properly provide
for our ‘special needs’ adult daughter. Gene provided the perfect
insight and helped us formulate a plan that suited our desires.”
“He helped us put our objectives into words. We spent three
hours with him in total,” said Gail.
“In the end, he had helped us to prepare something specific for
our attorney – something that truly reflected our goals,” said Jim. “It
was more than we ever expected.”
“What a joy it was to work with Gene. He never steered us
in one direction or another. He just listened, and helped make
our desires possible. We feel our giving now better reflects
our hearts,” Jim said. “And we could not be more excited to be partnering
with the Palau team, using our resources to honor the Lord ... in
more ways than one.”
John and Renee Taylor
John and Renee Taylor are a busy Christian
couple with four children and two foster children. In 1994, in order
to ensure a financial future which would provide for their children
in the event of their deaths, they decided to make a will.
Then, some years later, they attended the Reno Festival with Luis
Palau and found it to be a life-changing experience!
“We were completely blown away by the festival,” says Renee. “We
had no idea you could bring people together for such a tremendous
impact.”
The couple knew for sure it was important to support ministries
like this in their estate plan, and that’s how they met Gene Christian
at the Palau Association. They were interested in establishing a
charitable remainder trust which would benefit LPA.
“Prior to even meeting with us, Gene had a great worksheet which
outlined everything,” says John. “We took it to our attorney, and
she was impressed.”
Renee says, “We have grown so much since we wrote our first will
in 1994, we just wanted to update it and adjust the entire plan to
better fit our desire to serve God.”
Gene Christian and the Luis Palau Association were a great help,
and now the couple feels satisfied their estate plan both honors
God and will provide for their family.
“I would say, ‘Do an estate plan for your kids, and do it for God,’”
John remarks. “We didn’t have anything in our original will to give
to God, but now we know our estate plan reflects our love for Him.”
John and Renee are true Legacy Partners. If you’d like to
